Volunteering

There are many reasons to become a volunteer at Havering Shopmobility.          We are a charity that prides itself on providing a professional and caring service to anybody who needs to hire or buy mobility equipment.

Volunteers are the backbone of our service.  Without them we simply couldn't operate.

We offer three volunteering roles :

      Reception -      greeting customers, dealing with enquiries in the shop and on the telephone,                                          checking membership details, booking out equipment; helping  with sales,

                                taking payments and operating a cash till;

      Store Room -  bringing out scooters and wheelchairs, adjusting them to suit the user,                                                      recording fleet movements, receiving equipment back, cleaning, storing and

                                putting it back on charge;

      Administration - keeping computer and manual records up-to-date, filing and various tasks                                              in support of the manager

All we ask is that you volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours per week.

By volunteering with Havering Shopmobility you could:-

  • Do something worthwhile and help people who really need and value your support;

  • Make new friends;

  • Give back to your local community;

  • Learn new skills, useful to put on your CV if you are looking for work or advancement;

We will ask you to complete and return the application form and invite you in for an informal discussion so that we can find out about you and you can find out about us.  We will then invite you to undertake a half-day trial session with experienced staff in one of our two shops.  This will be either undertaking reception work or as a garage assistant, depending on your wishes and abilities.  This way, you will have the opportunity of finding out whether working with us is what you expected, and it will allow us to see what you are capable of.

We will then review the position with you and hopefully invite you to join our team of volunteers and sign up for a regular commitment of shifts.  During this time we will help you with induction and guidance, and partner you with an experienced volunteer.

If you need help to make an application or would like to discuss any aspect of volunteering with us, please ask to talk to our Volunteer Coordinator.
